I figured as much but my contest would be this. You are up 5-2 with guys on 1st and 3rd...the Yankees are juiced and you can feel the momentum swinging bad. Woudln't it be smart to put the closer in to stop the bleeding and get through the inning with no more or minimal damage, than start over fresh the next inning with say your normal setup guy or someone else?
I really don't know thats why I ask these questions. I know the year the BoSox won the WS they did this alot with Papelbon bringing him in in the 7th or 8th then letting someone else finish the game? Maybe I am mistaken.
Papelbon never came in, in the 7th. He had 3 saves that series and the other game was a blowout. He had 2 4 out saves but there was no one on base when he came in one of them and there was 2 outs with runners on first and second in the other. You cant bring your closer in like that with runners on first and third with no one out. You have to let him either come in with no one on base or let him come in if there is already 2 outs. He is a rookie closer you just cant put him in that spot facing the middle of the yankees line up with runners on base and no one out.
