What Are You Working On?

Many things at the moment. Sequencing, tension, dropping before downswing, and outside follow-thru.

Had a good sessions last night with trying to make every swing as tension free as possible. Light grip and loose shoulders. It worked very well. Sequencing figured itself out if I stayed loose. Need to remember to follow-thru.

Dropping before the downswing may have to wait. It's a hard move to do. I have a lesson on Friday and have some specific questions to ask and we'll see what I need to work on.

Presently, I'm working on my chipping stance and transitioning to a mallet putter from a blade. Specifically, narrowing my stance after I found it had been getting wider which had been causing me to chunk a few recently. For the putter transition, my line is a bit better with the lack of twist compared to a blade, but I'm trying to dial in my distances.

Consistency in full swing, chipping, and putting. I have my moments, but putting it all together has been a struggle.

Still working on balance and keeping my feet quieter. I do well at times but when I get tired, and sometimes if my balance feels off in the backswing, I revert. Frustrating af.

Working on making better decisions in the short game. I feel I can get the ball closer to hole by drawing my chip shots

After 3 putting almost every green. I am
Intent to use the line on ball for at least 5 rounds to see that works.

Looks like mostly sunshine here for the next few days. Put the golf net back up. While the oven preheated for some cast iron steaks tonight, I took my new Adams 5H out just to see what I could do with it. First time swinging a hybrid. First couple of swings weren't good at all. Then, remembering weight forward, hit the hybrid like a long iron, etc. I hit quite a few shots and made decent contact even though I was swinging off my lawn, not fairway short by any means. I have to start following through dang it. Like belt buckle at target in the finish. Oh yeah, and rotating around the spine angle, no lifting up dummy. I was decently happy with the contact for today. Now, which direction the ball would have gone... I have no idea.

9 o'clock backswing length similar to Moe Norman, Doug Sanders, John Rahm, and Tony Finau.

i'm working on undoing all the random swing videos that pop up in IG...i've let them creep into my head and my driver swing is inoperative.

The last tip of advice I got from my pro really made me ponder 🤔. “You swing the club with your Skeleton. The rest is all jelly”

Ditto. And it’s all the click bait junk.

Been trying to mix up the practice this year. In the past there was always a disproportionate amount of effort towards irons. So far there’s been more driver and short game practicing thrown in so far in 2024.

Unfortunately, whatever gains I make with one area I lose in another. My iron game is suffering right now. I’m grasping at straws and having nothing close to an iron swing I can confidently bring to the course.

When I talk negatively about the inability to improve, this is one of the big reasons why.

There are so many ways to suck at this game and I’ve experienced most.

Pulling the ball is my current miss. By moving my back foot back i think i have a handle on it with my short irons. Need to test with the long irons, hybrids and driver but so far so good.

Just got back from instructor. I have to admit when I was referred to him by a store owner, I had a few doubts. When I called, he said that he had a net in the backyard. He is a club fitter, a club restorer, and instructor. I thought wait a minute. No technology, outside, only a net. Man, best lesson ever. Changed my grip a bit. Had me tilt shoulders to the trail side just a bit, place weight on the lead foot/leg. Make small 5:00 - 7:00 swings, then 4:00 - 8:00 swings. I hit every ball. Not all were good, but most were and no whiffs. Stop getting handsy and wristy. I could have sworn I cured that. Also showed me how the club head turns over during the swing.

First lesson today and came away with the realization I should have done this much sooner.

- alignment was off
- coming back way too inside
- not clearing hips

I came into the lesson hitting balloon like fades with no divot, I left hitting nice little draws with a normal divot and a lot of work ahead.

Also- seeing my swing on video was 🤮🤢. Lot of work ahead but the progress made in one lesson has me excited to keep going.

Family thing in the morning then to the range for work.

I hope to achieve this one day.

Trying to hold lag. Saw a YT video that finally made sense to me regarding lag. Wrists forward in the setup and try to keep thumbs down in the follow through. I’ve only been out once since practicing it and I was definitely hitting farther, but I’m also hitting new irons, so who knows. Need to set up the MLM2 with the facing camera and watch my wrists. Just need a day with no rain in the forecast.

Working on getting my left arm extension after impact and being in sync.
last 2 rounds have been my best iron play in about 18 months.
I’ve mentioned that I’ve been diagnosed with Parkinson’s in other threads.
The condition is causing some issues with my coordination of movements at times.
Working one arm swings a some smash bag work is helping me sync up hips/chest/ arms much better.

Back to the range today to work on the "new swing feels"

Trying to over exaggerate the rotate through versus the raising up that has plagued me. Hit some really good shots that I thought man that's it, then I'd follow it up with a yikes what was that. I felt like Justin Rose on the range as much as I was exaggerating the practice swing, but it seemed to help so oh well.

Couple of days off from the range with league on Tuesday, and probably another range session on Thursday or Friday before next lesson on Saturday.

I typed up the things my instructor went over yesterday. I am usually leaving out one or two of them. Gotta get that straight. Hit about 20 balls into the net this morning, mainly short swing shots. Sitting here typing this, when I did practice some fuller shots, I realized I forgot to make sure the butt end of the club was pointing towards the ball.

Working on shoulder to shoulder swing, normal swing tempo and making good contact. Need to rework my swing again to make consistent contact. My outdoor setup is 80% finished. Need to tweak a few thing. Skytrak is on its way despite “snafus” from 2nd swing golf.
