Harry's PGA Show Travelogue

JB's black & tan shoes are interesting--they look sort of like spats.

They look more like black and a mustard yellow to me, I like them! I am surprised we aren't seeing more color from JB. (besides the THP ones obviously!)

Those bags are just fantastic. I have faith in JB that he will get that Puma one someday!!! (sorry GG)

Great pic's! The "Dorothy" shoes in the large alcove need to be sitting on some kind of small shelf, maybe bookend's around them. :D

Nice pics... I can't believe you have a room with just bags in it. I have one too... it's called a garage that can't fit any cars. So jealous. :D

You should do some kind of silent auction for a couple of those bags to benefit THP or a charity if you need more room in the bag room.

Lol to Harry trying to find blackmail pics, unfortunately we are incredibly boring and don't really have anything too exciting to incriminate us.

OMG - wasn't Tiger quoted with almost these exact words about a month before his unfortunate hydrant incident?:beat-up:

I dont see a Ping bag in there. I dont suppose he would want to trade something for one? I have one sitting in my garage, that I never use.

It depends on the bag and the condition. Every bag there has never seen the course, so they are perfect. I am always open to trades though, but I may not have much to trade.

It has been on the course. So most likley unworthy. I will try to take some pictures and put them up later... But prolly wont make the cut!

I am on the verge of the same problem with shoes. I have 5 pair, and keep having to talk myself out of new ones. haha.

I think they are posing as a shoe department

I think they are posing as a shoe department

Great shoes dude & dudette!!!!!!! WOW those puppies would never make it up here in muddy middle Georgia. Red clay and stuff so we have to wear rubber boots with spikes on em... :banghead:

Hey Harry, I'm going to let you in a hot deal ok??? You want to win something big from Claire, just pm me the winner.... Thanks buddy, I knew I could bribe ya :D

that collection of shoes is awesome! how on earth does one decide which 'black and white' pair so I game today? That's a decision I want to have some day.....:confused2:

In the morning I hit all of the drivers from the shootout. (GG will be uploading some photos later in the Driver Shootout Contest thread. And no; no hints on the status of the picks.) I am a frequent demo day visitor, but I've never had access to so many drivers at one time before. I was surprised at just how different each driver felt. Feel, sound, trajectory, and forgiveness were unique to each driver. I can say that the one that felt the best to me didn't have the best results (not the worst either) and vice-versa. And the straightest wasn't the longest. It's all about compromises. After this morning, I've narrowed my picks down to a top 7 or 8, and I will be making a final decision tomorrow.

After driver the range session, JB and I played 18 at JB and GG's club. I bagged 2 of the finalists for the front 9, and 2 other finalists for the back 9. I was surprised that clubs that were at the top of my list at the range weren't my favorite on the course. The remaining finalists will get bagged in the same manner for tomorrow's round.

The course was beautiful and there was some amazing wildlife. The birds were really cool. Several different varieties of herons, turkey vultures, and other animals. But there were no small mammals like raccoons or squirrels or anything. I can't figure out why.

Glad you finally made it down there and the weather is cooperating. Sounds like you're having a good time so far, I'm so envious!

That is so awesome! I kind of want alligators on the courses around here... Would definitely reduce the number of drunken patrons who race carts and random dog walkers on the courses :D

I joined this site after this contest was over.. I can't wait to see if another one will be comming up.. this is truely a wonderful prize and opportunity for Harry. Glad you seem to be enjoying yourself.

Thanks for the update, Harry. After the contest, you will have to give us an idea what things you like and dislike about this group. I am a TM ho but, there are a couple of drivers that I would atleast like to hit. Well done.

sorry maybe Harry's will get your hand back!!!!

Thats the dam alligator that bit my hand off.

Best post I've read in a week...perfect timing, completely unexpected and high comedy all around! Good one Gas!

Harry- I love reading about your journey, I was a finalist to be there so it's like living vicariously thru you on the trip that might have been! Keep the goods coming man!

Out for BBQ tonight. Not sure why, I had my mind set on a pulled pork sandwich ever since we decided on BBQ. I felt a little odd about it considering that the menu had All You Can Eat BBQ chicken and sides, and BBQ ribs, etc. But then I saw that they offered the pulled pork sandwich with bacon on top. That's swine on swine porn my friends. When I saw that, I knew my choice was the right one. And it was yumtacular. As were the wings, cole slaw, fries, and key lime pie.

I've been waddling ever since. Totally worth it.

We awoke to heavy rain this morning, which put a delay on the day's activities. So instead, we headed out for some breakfast at a local joint called "Food is Love".

JB opted for "The Heart Ache (or should we say heart attack)":

While GG decided on "The Usual"*

*I am now hatchng a plan to steal GG away from JB. Why? Because she gave me her bacon.
How can you not want a girl who gives you her bacon. On the other hand, can you ever really trust a girl who voluntarily gives up her bacon?

I decided on "Ted's Southwest Breakfast Burrito" (Scrambled eggs, chorizo, green chiles, Monterrey jack cheese wrapped in a warm flour tortilla. Served with love spuds and fruit. Salsa & sour cream on the side.)

photo-37.jpg

My choice baffled JB and GG. I suppose it was because the item directly below the Breakfast Burrito was "The Mufflover" (A toasted English Muffin topped with an egg over medium, cheese & your choice of sausage, bacon or ham. Served with Love Spuds and fresh fruit.)

After breakfast, we learned that JB and GG's club had closed for the day due to the rain. Oddly, the sun had been out for three hours and there was no more rain in the forecast (and none came). We had to scramble and make tee times at another course. We ended up meeting up with the Sligo guys and playing 18 at Sarasota National. Beautiful open resort course. I played much better than yesterday, but had trouble getting used to the Bermuda/Rye greens. WAY too many 3 putts. A few very poor swings thrown in too.

photo-38.jpg

But overall, not a bad day considering high winds playing havoc with the ball. Also, the Sligo guys are players. Play.Ahhhs. Every single one of them blasted the ball off the tee and drove it long and deep. But even more than there golf skills, they just kept JB and I in stitches the whole time.

I am having a blast. JB and GG are fantastic hosts. But there is also a lot of work getting done. Lots of strategic meetings, show planning, and preparation. We have all been exhausted at the end of every day. The Show starts Wednesday with a Demo Day and demonstration, and tomorrow is a travel day followed by final planning and finalization of the THP PR materials. All of that means no more golf for this trip. In fact, my clubs are getting shipped back home tomorrow.

Let me just say that you guys have no idea how much work JB and GG put into the site and the magazine. I "work" here (writer, editor, etc.) and I didn't even know exactly how much goes on behind the scenes. The reason you don't see other sites organizing things like the Driver Shoot Out are a logistical nightmare. From convincing the equipment companies to trust you with their latest top of the line club which has a strict embargo date (no photos or information until a certain date), to organizing impartial and unaffiliated testers, to assembling and distilling the data, to entertaining company reps, . . . And that's only one article. And THP puts up a new article or review every weekday. (I dare you to find another golf site that does that.) The days are long. Usually fun, but long. I've been here since Saturday and, in that time, I haven't watched a single round of golf on TV, and I've seen maybe 30 minutes of playoff football and that was only because it was on TV in the background while we had a strategy meeting in the living room.

I have been doing schedule planning for the PGA Show with JB and GG. We will be working our butts off. This most definitely will not be three friends leisurely walking around and drooling over new products while occasionally taking a few videos and photos. Virtually every minute of the day (and night) is booked. Make no mistake folks, this is not a hobby. It's a business. And a non-profit one at that. Don't get me wrong - as a member of the staff, I've know from the beginning exactly how much work this would be based on my discussions with JB and GG about last year's show. So I've treated this as a business trip all along. But until I got here, I just didn't know exactly how time intensive it is to keep THP up and running. And that doesn't even include the expansion plans such as the magazine.

More updates to come, but I have to get some sleep now. Gotta get up early and pack and have a pre-travel meeting.

Awesome stuff Harry! Damn those pictures are killing me. Im not sure if its hunger or a heart attack! Sure does look good! Great writing and look forward to hearing more!

Great job Harry. THP made an excellent choice for the PGA show contest.

Very interesting read Mr. Longshanks. I really appreciate you taking the time to put your thoughts down on paper for us to read. I don't think that I'll ever fully understand how much hard work goes into to this place but you've shed a lot a light on it. Thanks for being honest & thanks for all of your hard work JB & GG.
