Looking like i will be making a trip back to Seattle area in August. From what i have read the weather in august is pretty dry for the area. Can locals confirm this and recommend any courses i should look into playing while there?

Price range? July, August and September are the best golf months up here.

dont have one really, i mean im not trying to spend 300 on a round on this trip but whatever is a great experience and awesome course.

For the muni's, I like:
West Seattle Muni - Nice views of downtown Seattle on back 9.
Jefferson Park - Course Freddy Couples grew up playing.

If you don't mind driving a little farther south, you can do Chamber's Bay (2015 US Open Course)

Chambers is a must do for sure. BUT do not forget about Gold Mountain's Olympic course!! This track is so much fun to play and it's just a short ferry ride across.

For great views.. The Golf Club at Newcastle. You can see the entire Seattle skyline, Bellevue skyline and all of Lake Washington. On a sunny day, you can't beat it $140.

Best tracks.. Chambers Bay in Tacoma (45 minute drive) $130. Washington National in Auburn (45 minute drive) $90. Gold Mountain in Bremerton (1 hour drive or ferry ride) $75 .

Good economical courses.. West Seattle $50 .Willows Run in Redmond (20 minutes drive) $65. Harbour Point in Mukilteo (30 minute drive) $60.

i was checking out newcastle earlier it looks very nice as does chambers bay

I haven't played up there much, but I have played Druids Glen and thought it was nice. We played for about $60 but I think peak season is a little more.

I would second Druids Glen and look at the Home Course. Its 1 freeway exit from Chambers Bay and is great. Has 5 sets of tees and plays 7400 from the very back tees. Also around $50. Amd down by Olympia is a new course called Salish Cliffs by the Little Creek casino. Its spectacular. Have to take a cart and its $95 but that includes cart and range balls. Hybrid Bent grass fairways, some of the best I have played on here in the NW. 700 feet of elevation changes. Same guy who designed Circling Raven in Couer d'alaine Idaho.

80 miles east of Seattle in the Cascade mountains is Suncadia Resort with 2 courses open to the public, Prospector and Rope Rider. Prices I think range from $50 to $110 depending on day and time. Gorgeous views and should be exceptional in August if we don't have a summer?? like last year.

FYI just make sure to check dress code at any course you decide to play.

Newcastle is WAY overpriced and tends to cater to out of towners and the expense account crowd on the public side. Druids could still be wet in August with a dry summer, and it's a riders course. Gold Mountain is definitely one of the best values in the area, and Washington National is a very nice track especially if you select the right tee box.

Honestly though, I would have to go with Chambers which hosted a US Amateur and I believe is a future sight for the US Open.

I lived in the Bothell area for a year or-so and always liked Echo Falls. Not a real tough course but very scenic and in great condition. Cart is definitely needed unless you're a tri-athlete. Looks like rates have come way down since I was there last.

I played the Home course earlier this month and loved it. It was a little sloppy, but I guess that is just the pacific northwest when it isn't summer! I wouldn't call the Home course the strongest design, but the setting was awesome and had great views and a good price. I loved being able to go off at 4pm and easily walk 18 holes before dark.

Ok so my Seattle trip is being booked today . i will be there for two weeks Aug 5-11 home for a week then back again the 19th-25th ... pretty sure i will bring the clubs on at least one of those trips.

Actually staying in Bellevue which kinda sucks but anyway .. i think newcastle is the closest to my location. Can you locals confirm that? or if there is anything closer worth looking into?

Bellevue is 10 minutes east of Seattle. Newcastle is about 15 min from downtown Bellevue. Of all the muni's, I like Jackson Park in North Seattle.

Redmond Ridge is about 25 min from downtown Bellevue. It's owned by the same company that owns Newcastle (same with WA National, Trophy Lake, etc). In fact, you might want to check out the Oki Card if you think you'll play any of those courses.

There's Bellevue Muni which can be challenging (lots of trees), but it usually plays really slow so if you play there I'd recommend an early tee time.

which is nicer redmond ridge or newcastle?

I've played both courses at Newcastle (China Creek & Coal Creek), and the course at Redmond Ridge. Redmond Ridge is nice with a reasonable green fee. My big complaint about it is the 13th hole. It just doesn't compliment what otherwise is a nice track.

As for Newcastle, you can't beat the view. It's pricey but the whole facillity is very well done.

Maybe you'll get to play them both. My favorite of the OKI courses that I have played is Trophy Lake, but that's a trek over an hour from Bellevue.

Honestly they're not too much different. Newcastle is easier to get to. If you plan on playing a lot while you're here, get the Oki card, play both courses at newcastle, redmond ridge, and WA national (about 45 min south & is the home course for UW's golf team).

I stay in Bellevue once a month. It is a great little place to stay. Good food and all!

I usually run up to Willows Run in Redmond if I want to get some quick golf in...it is not bad and they can usually get a single on any time. I will actually be there next week and plan on playing the Eagle Talon on Tuesday. I also spend some time down in the Renton area and like to run up and play the Maplewood Course. It is a GREAT course to go out and walk 18. I do it quite often when I am in town just for an afternoon exercise!

Have fun in Bellevue!

Just got back from a 4 day weekend in Seattle and played Coal Creek at Newcastle. What a beautiful course, was well worth the price.

As a side note after visiting the Pike Place Market and eating at a few of the restaurants in Seattle I am ready to pack my bags and move there.
