These were done by a good friend of ours from Wichita. He actually spends quite a bit of time n staff at Silver Dollar City in Branson carving for the visitors. This is all I have to show, but pretty proud of them and what he has accomplished. The golf ball he did for me was done in 2002 I believe. He just started a facebook page and should have a lot more to show in time. Just thought some might like to see.

Really? Guess I should have posted something about a tv show or what someone should have been drinking, lmao.

Those are cool, carving isn't something I haven't tried as of yet.

Those are amazing, if sells them, please let me know!

Just found this old thread and was wondering if anyone else here does any hand carving? Here is one of my fireplace surrounds. This one is in our home.

Current projects on my bench:
First is this cherry and ironwood piece. The ironwood has 86 rings making it quite old.
Second is some waterleaf molding that will be combined with an Ogie crown to make a shelf.
Third is a display stand. Three female forms will support the top (a ring that will have a backlit translucent granite top). The ring is yet to be carved.

That's very cool! Woodcarving is something I've thought about trying out but not sure how I would do at it. It seems like it would be a pretty fun hobby though.

I find.that I really love the design and layout process. The actual carving can be either so absorbing that you loose all track of time or (as in some molding repeats) downright boring. I use to be an analyst and never had a finished product that I could touch, feel or smell. That's what I really love about carving. I did a 5' long cedar heart wood spire on the lathe and.then did some sculpture carving to it. My shop smelled like heaven to me and the project was completed too fast because I couldn't leave the shop. Being able to run my hand over a pleasing curve... That's what keeps me at it I guess.
