About to gain some shop credit and pondering wedges and a 7 wood. Currently using a 50-56-60 with a 44* PW. Would a 48-52-58 or a 50-54-58 make more sense gap wise. The 50-56-60 is working out great at the present but????

How far do you hit your 44* and 50*?

Pw 115-120 and 50 last few rounds, it’s a new addition to the bag, seeing roughly 105. @willplaysgolf
It’s kind of a tough call. Personally, I like 50-54-58? But I know I can 3/4 a 50 to fill the gap between full 50 and full 54, and that I can also 3/4 PW to hit the same yardage as I can on a full 50 but with a lower trajectory if it’s into the wind.

By that, I mean hit it the same yardage as I can full when I really needed it to be a few yards shorter because 🤦🏻‍♂️

I think if you're happy hitting the 44* say 109 yards, and the other 3 wedges are working around the green, then I wouldn't change anything

I have the same jump and use 50-56-60…works for me because I’m comfortable knocking down the PW to get myself to the number the 50 covers. But it’s all about the gaps in your own game and what works for you

I like to hit 1/2 to 3/4 with both the 44 & 50* wedges. The 56/60 have been great around the greens lately! Thanks for the insight.

If 50 gaps close enough you could go 50-54-58. If not you could go 48/9-52/3-58. No rule that says wedge lofts have to be even numbers.

44, 49, 54, 58, 64.

44* PW Set
49* GW (50 Vokey bent 1* strong)
54* SW Vokey
58* LW Vokey

I know it is only 1*, but it didn’t feel right having a 6* gap between my set wedge and first specialist wedge.

It's all about distance gapping. That's why it's important to know how far you hit each club. It doesn't necessarily have to be 4* gaps. That's just recommended as the standard. You can go up to 6* so you could have the 44*, then go 50* & 56* That way you have room for the 7W But you also have to look at how often you would hit the clubs as well. I believe you would hit the wedges more often than the 7W, plus the wedges are where you score. I would go with the extra wedge once you find the gapping.

I tried to get really granular with this, but found it was not really necessary. Adding a GW closer in loft didn't really make a difference. I just go 50/54/58 now. The GW remains the least used club in my bag for whatever reason.

Loft gaps don't matter. Yardage gaps do

I'd probably do 48-52-60 but i'm weird, and find 56 to be the most useless wedge.

I'm 43* set PW, then 48 (full swing) and then 52 / 56. I don't find myself full swinging the last two at all but I needed the next set down to full swing around 80-90 yards, since my PW sits around 100'ish.

Loft gaps don't matter. Yardage gaps do
If everyone would realize and accept this fact, the world would be a better place.

It’s all about getting the yardage gaps where you want them. Loft and yardage sometimes correlate but sometimes uneven loft gaps are needed. My “normal” distances with my wedges are: 89, 104, 117, and 129. Lofts are 60, 55, 50, and 46.

I have a 44* PW and I go 50/54/58. That's been my wedge setup for years and I'm very comfortable with it. The 50* is the highest loft I'll take a full swing with, everything else is for touch shots and I don't find gapping to be an issue at all.

PW 43°
GW 48°
SW 53°
LW 58°

Seems like that yardage gap is manageable. If you agree I wouldn't mess with the set-up it seems like you are enjoying.

The PW from my G710s is 44*, after which I carry a 50* then a 58*. My strategy is to make the 50* the workhorse of my short game, from 60-yards to around the green. I use the 58* mostly for bunkers and chip or short pitch shots and also carry a Smart Sole 4 "C" (42*) which is good for various shots around the green and more useful to me than a 54* wedge.

I currently go 44*, 48*, 52*, then 58*. Works for me but i could also swap out the 52* for a 54* without any issues and may do that

yardage and how you use them (full swings for all?)

fwiw I just did a wedge fitting on grass, and ended up with 50-55 (54 bent weak)-60 to go along with 44* PW which is a 105 club for me. I swing all of them full depending on the situation, totally ymmv.
