Question for those familiar with their launch/club numbers.

What swing speed difference do you typically see from one iron to the next? For example, if you swing your 7 iron 80mph, do you have a progressive increase/decrease as you go up and down the set? Is it somewhat uniform?

Not 100% sure but I think it’s about 2mph. 90mph with the 7i and about 88mph with an 8i. I believe my 4i is right around 96-97mph

Had to go back and look but on average for me it’s:

GW - 81
PW - 82
9i - 82
8i - 84
7i - 85
6i - 86
5i - 92
UT - 94

Around 2-3mph until we get to the longer clubs then there seem to be some inefficiencies.

This kind of makes me feel better. I have some bunching between my 54 and 9 iron and thought something was wrong with me. Well, something other than all the other things that are wrong with me.

My avg speeds step up or down in the order expected but not by a lot. I'm old and slow though and assume the steps would be larger for faster swingers.
LW - 65.9
SW - 65.8
GW - 66.9
PW - 68.6
9i - 70.1
8i - 72.0
7i - 74.1
6i - 76.4
5i - 77.7
4H - 79.7
5F - 82.3
3F - 85.2

At a quick glance it appears to be around 2-3mph as we progress downward or upwards through the set.

Here's another comparison if you'd like it:

60- 73.1
56- 74.7
50- 79.6
P- 81.3
9- 83.8
8- 85.6
7- 87.2
6- 89.5
5- 90.9
4- 92.4
Hyb- 98.4
3W- 101.4
Dr- 106.7

I appreciate the posts guys. What's interesting to me is that you're talking about a 1/2" difference between clubs. It's wild that it equates to a couple mph in most cases.

9i: 68
8i: 73
7i: 74
6i: 76

It’s really all over the place from one practice session to another, but this is the best I can do without compiling all the data to get the true averages.

The only useful information the LM offers is I’m very inconsistent from the start of the session to the middle, from swing to swing, and from session to session.

I’ve learned swing speed can be manipulated, but I’m not sure an increase leads to better golf.

If your set is like mine, the length difference from 9i to 54-degree is minimal. I think my 54-degree Vokey is 35-1/2" and my 9-iron is 36". Only way that 9i is going to swing faster is if I try to swing harder at it, which I don't really.

I do believe that may be the case. I think all my wedges (including PW) are within 1/2" of each other.

I don't know, all I do know is that there is a 10 yard difference between each iron when hit properly.

@JonMA1, however, CHS for my 7-iron, can range from 68 mph to 80 mph.

My 7 iron speed averages about 90 mph. Wedges are 87ish. 4 iron 92mph.
