For the first time this year I had specific goals set before the season.

- play more rounds: i played 73 full rounds from mid-March through October, up from my recent average of ~55.
- play more courses: i played 18 different courses this year, up from my more typical 5-6.
- lower my handicap: i started the season as an 8.9 and ended as an 8.0, my lowest ever. (5 years ago i was mid-20s.)
- get more birdies: 61 birdies in 73 rounds, most in one round was 3.
- birdie every hole on my home course: got 13/18 at least once.
- break 80 more than 5 times: shot 80 or below 10 times, 13.6% of my rounds.

What were your goals for the 2023 season?
How did you do?

my handicap stayed between 10.1 and 9.5 at it's lowest all year. I wanted to get to a 7.5 :( I also didn't break 80 a single time after doing it twice last year finally.

1. Lower average score/index
Yes and yes - even with challenging myself from longer tees.

2. Enjoy the journey
Undoubtedly the best season since taking up the game. I played measurably better and that's all I can ask for.

3. While there are other areas in the game I need to focus on, I still like the GIRs. 2023 Goal is to hit 8 greens at least once next year. I think that would be a PB.
I did not meet this goal. Hit 6 GIRs a couple of times and reduced my proximity to the hole. Approach game may have been good enough, see #4.

4. Get in a few rounds without any penalties from the driver.
Only did this a couple of times. Not a great year with the driver, overall.

I stayed healthy
I enjoyed every round
My handicap index dropped from 14.7 to 13.1.
