Noticed my local shop no longer uses lighter fluid as a solvent to put new grips on. They are now using plain old rubber cement. They don't even pull the old tape off, just coat the old tape and the inside of the grip with rubber cement and slide it on. Seems to work great as I have had no issues on any kind with any clubs they have done this on.

I've never seen that before. Glad it's working for you!

Im all for rubber cement. I was using it back in '97 to regroup clubs. I would always remove the old tape and put fresh tape on. But then I would place RC on the butt of the shaft and just slide the grip over the top. It dries in minutes and is less toxic.

Gonna re-grip my "new" retro Staff 88's today. Think I'll give it a try. Also going to use a .580 core diameter grip instead of a .600 even though my shaft is a .600. Last time I tried .600 grips a couple slipped on me.
