Thoughts while sitting on the side of the teebox.

While New Hampshire is a different kind of resort environment than Hawaii, still and all in the summertime we have a good many people in state that have come up to play the resort courses and they will try to get a few rounds in on other courses as well. You might be able to find some courses out your way that do not draw much of the tourist crowd. I would see if that might be an option for you. Frankly while I would never do it under any circumstances I could see a guy playing a second ball on a crowded course if he was paying big bucks during his vacation to be there. Heck he probably thinks everybody else is in the same boat and he has as many people in front of him playing multiple balls as there are behind him doing the same thing.

I will only play multiple balls on an empty course. There are times when I will go out when it is so empty that I can stay on one fairway if I want to and will never see a soul for hours.

Well, I'm 53 years young ans walking I usually finish a round in just about 4:15. Last week I did play behind of 4some of late 20's early 30's women and the round took me 5 1/2 hrs. however, I didn't really mind as the view was good.
Seriously though, when I start getting aggravated I just remind myself i could be in my cube at work, or cleaning dogcrap out of the back yard or doing any of a hundred other little things I really hate doing instead of being out on the course.

bro... how long have you lived in honolulu? youre just now finding out thats its a tourist trap?
most of the courses that cater to tourists are fun to play if you have plenty of time... but i avoided them like the plague
choke peeps brah
same deal in san diego especially on the casino courses and torrey

and about the old guys... i feel ya
thursday is senior day at our course and there are 5 diff senior associations playing
everyone in the city avoids our course on the thurs they rotate to our course
these guys play a 6hr round normally... if its cartpath only forget about it
now before any of the guys on here start ripping on me ill throw in the disclaimer that one of the members of our course that i play alot of golf with is 84
he can barely walk... but he and i can get around our course in about 2 hrs regardless of how well we are playing
the deal with the senior association guys is they just dont care about anyone else on the course cuz that day they feel they own it
some of those old boys are down right mean too hahaha

For a little different perspective today two of my old fart buddies and myself went out and went around the course in 3 1/2 hours, it was cold and we didn't play well so we took an extra 1/2 hour, oh and there were two young whipper snappers in a cart that couldn't catch us.

Every age group has slow players and I feel your pain, there have been times I was tempted to throw some peoples golf bag into the pond just so they didn't have to suffer playing golf at a turtles pace. Some people just need to learn how to play faster but I doubt they want to hear it.

Well, I mostly only play on military courses. They are actually pretty nice here on the island. The vacationers that play the courses here are mostly retired military, and if you try to ask them to speed up all they have to say is "do you know who I am"? "I'm a Sergeant Major, Colonel, General...etc". No your not. You used to be. But still they think they can do what they want how they want because of who they were or are. So maybe it's a military thing too. And come to think of it, I don't run into that many younger guys playing on military courses anyway. Maybe that's why it always seems to be older fellas.

Is there anything that you guys do to keep your rhythm and stay calm while having to hang behind these "laggers"?!

I take a ball and a wedge and chip around the back of the tee box, or anywhere that is close and out of the way of others.

I feel that if a group can't finish 18 in 4.5 hrs, they have no business on a golf course. I can walk 18, swing 95 times and still finish in 3.5 hours easily. Getting past guys is a skill just like putting. Big smiles and banter work as well as impatient glares.

right on, I wish this was enforced...the sole reason Im going to play way less rounds at public courses

I carry a few whiffle balls. I'll setup off the box and hit them back and forth till it is clear. Hitting them to a playing partner is fun too.

thats not a bad idea, I might as well do something constructive instead of whining and yelling

Thanks, I find standing there stewing is a total swing wrecker. I've gotta keep moving or else I try to kill the tiny evil ball.

Great idea tnc!

I usually chip around by myself, or have some kind of little chipping match with a playing partner! We get held back by slow players quite often, as we are fast players, but I'm used to it!

When faced with this problem (which is a rare), I 1) kick my feet up on the golf cart, 2) soak in the views, and 3) sip on an adult beverage. I also tend to analyze people's swings (to myself, although it would be funny in the middle of their back swing to just yell out 'NO NO NO! your doing it all wrong!').

I desperately try not to be playing during peak hours of use but will usually just sit, watch, maybe check stats in the GPS and maybe hydrate a bit while waiting. Easy to play through as a single or a twosome. People are reluctant to let a foursome by unless they are clearly moving much faster.

I do agree that 4.5 hours is excessive and by a long way even for a foursome. I can get on and off in 3.5 if playing alone or in a twosome without even really rushing. 3.5 is tough I think for anything above a twosome and you do have to keep moving even in a twosome. Hard not to lose 5 minutes here and there. Granted the actual course layout has something to do with it as well.

Like the idea of hitting a practice ball if there is room to get away from the other players. Knocking one back and forth between two guys makes sense. That is a good one!
