I wonder how Westbrook comes back this year. Im hoping Hafner bounces back as well.

westbrook is so underrated ... he's thrown some serious shut down games ... problem is he comes back from a 2 hit complete game shut out with a 10 run job barely lasting 4 innings ... i don't know why he's not more consistent ... but when he's on i dare say he's almost an ace ...

hafner i don't have as much hope for though ... he's had 2 seasons now to show he can return to form and he hasn't ... baseball fortunes change from from season to season than any other sport in my opinion ... but i think pronk has seen his best days ... and worse ... is on the decline ...

I have to admit I didn't read ALL 129 pages of this thread, but I hope I can make up with enthusiasm!

Here in Boston we all know we're a little over the top with the Red Sox and this year is no different. It is a little funny to listen to people complain so much about a team where the first 3 starters have all won clinching games of world series, but there it is. Obviously we can't complain about pitching or defense. So, offense is the big concern. It will be interesting to see if we can get all the base runners that should be on base across the plate and it is a little concerning to be relying on Papi to hit our home runs, but hey, Papi hit a home run in an exhibition game today and we won 15-0. Of course, it was against a college team!:victory:

I have to say, just having games so close gets me excited. Soon it will be baseball, golf and Spring in the Northeast!

Its too bad because I really loved watching that guy a few years ago. Are the Indians going to give Carlos Santana a shot a catcher this year. I know a lot of us Dodger fans were not happy to get rid of him but getting Blake made it easier.

I kind of like the direction the Sox are taking things. Cameron is great defensively and should give you around 20 homers. I wonder what Beltre is capable of this year, was last year just a down year? I think he will bounce back well and if not his glove is still pretty amazing.

to be honest the only thing i've heard about santana's role on the team this year is that the indians and manager acta are very high on him and he's been told he is unquestionably the catcher of the future ...

with that said however they also don't want to rush him into things and he will begin the season in triple A ball (barring some injury to the other catchers on the roster) ...

yeah pronk was a lot of fun to watch and he remains a fan favorite ... he's the big lumber unpretentious masher that cleveland fans love to root for ... it would be great to see him back to his old self but as i said unfortunately i wouldn't bet on it based on his track record the previous 2 seasons ...

as far as blake goes he never got much love from the organization or the press for that matter ... his teammates loved him but everyone else around cleveland thought of him as the kind of player who's too good for the minors, but not good enough for the majors ...

by the way my first baseball cap was a dodgers cap ... you're thrilled to know that i'm sure ... lol ...

People love Blake out in LA. You see people with "Fear the Beard" shirts at the game and he had a bobblehead night last year.

Thats good to hear about your Dodger hat. If it makes you feel better, besides all of my Dodger stuff, the only othe MLB teams merchandise I have is a Brewers hat and a Hafner Indians shirt. Its pretty beat up now but I still wear it around the house.

Not like it matters because its Spring Training but the Yankees/Phillies game will be on the MLB network tonight at 7 eastern. You can see Sabathia and Halliday battle it out for 2 innings.

haha fear the beard ... niiiiiice ... tribe fans are affectionate about the brewers too since two years ago the indians played their home opener in milwaukee because of a blizzard in cleveland that shut down jacobs field ... and of course, though not quite the same as he was in recent past, you have manny : ) i ran into him in a club years ago when he was still with cleveland and he was pretty rude to a restroom attendant ... using the guys counter cologne and then walking out ... and when the attendant told him he has to pay to use it manny laughed at him and said "no speeak eeenglish" ... manny being manny eh ... i like watching him play anyway ...

I think if we knew half of the crap these guys pulled, we would be turned off of sports completely.

on the one hand i understand that certain levels of accomplishment will create a confidence that might sometimes be considered arrogance ... but you're right there is a line neverteless ...

this story i'm about to tell you is worse than the manny story ... and i shouldn't laugh but i do because this particular person doesn't quite reach manny level of stardom ... but he certainly thought he did ...

i'm at a club years back and somewhere on the dance floor there's a commotion going on ...

some guy who's pretty big ... 6'5" ... 320 pounds ... he's out of control ... pushing people around ... laughing as he does ... sometimes however also looking angry and yelling ...

so naturally, curious ... i go closer ... and it turns out to be a cleveland browns player .... i'll say who in a moment (that's the funny part) ...

well he's flirting with a girl who doesn't want to be flirted with ... and guy friends she's with stick up for her ... but this football player is shoving them around like stuffed animals ...

one particularly brave guy gets in the football players face and says something ... presumably defending the girl, or asking he leave her alone ...

ok now here's the funny part (but disturbing too) ... the football player picks the guy up from his neck with both of his hands and SCREAMS ...

"DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM??? (spits flying out of his mouth)I 'M ROSS VERBA !!!!! (his eyeballs are bulging) I'M ROSS VERBA !!!!!" ...

and throws him down ... lol

um? WHO???????

ross verba LOLOLOL ... the guy is an nfl player yes (offensive lineman), was actually ... but he was .... um ... ross verba lol ...

security naturally led him and his friends away but not out of the club ... the girl and her friends looked scared and unhappy and left ...

was a bummer night for them but when you said what you did it reminded me of that ... ross was juuuuuuuuuuust a little into himself ... lol DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM ???

guy had problems though because a few years later he was arrested on a felony warrant for writing some 50k worth of bad checks at the wynn casino in vegas ...

"Do you know who I am " is one of the classic lines of all time. We get that a lot out here.

ha yeah my friends and i reference/use it derisively once in while ... say when one of us smashes a particularly long drive ... DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM ??? IM VICAR SULTAN OF THE 270 YARD DRIVE SUCKAH !!! (of course when we get up to the ball i realize it was only 240) haha ...

Im really hoping this doesnt become the theme for the Dodgers season. Martin is a pretty big part of this team. Even with a down season last year, he handles a staff second to none.
PHOENIX -- Dodgers catcher Russell Martin has a pulled groin muscle and will be sidelined four to six weeks, missing the rest of Spring Training and Opening Day, manager Joe Torre said on Sunday.

Since the Dodgers are brought up, why bring in Anderson? Is he supposed to compete with Reed Johnson for the 4th outfield?

I wasnt really too excited about bringing him in either. From what I have heard Reed Johnson has the 4th Outfield spot. Anderson is going to compete with Brian Giles and Doug Mientkiewicz for the left handed bat off the bench. The only thing Anderson really has going for him is that he is a local boy.

We just purchased Angels/Twins tickets for the home opener in Anaheim. So excited!! Baseball is BACK :twist:

Aroldis Chapman made his first start of Spring today throwing 2 scoreless innings and touching 100 on the radar gun. I read a great quote on Twitter from a scout about him, he said " That should work". Struck out 3 and gave up a hit.

Strasburg will get his first start tomorrow for the Nats. The game will be televised on MLB at 10 AM Pacific. I think he is going to get rocked.

I agree Gasman...I don't think he's ready to be in the Show yet...he's still a head case from college.

Chapman needs to make a quote for the media, give 'em something to talk about. Something like, "...I want to announce my presence with AUTHORITY..."

Who Strasburg? In all the reports (and there were a ton of them prior to him being drafted) no one ever said that or alluded to that? :confused2: He's going to start in the minors and may get called up in May so the Nats don't start his arb clock too early but if he was a headcase I don't think he'd be considered for an early promotion like that

I don't think he's a headcase but I think since Boras is his agent I wouldn't be surprised if Scott filled his head with a lot of hot air.

From what Im hearing, Strasburg should be making his way up come June. Regardless, he is pitching in a 1/2 hour and im excited to watch.

Did you guys hear about Joe Nathan? Thats a major bummer.

April 5 :twist:

Strasburg came on as a surprise to many. Apparently in high school and college he would get down on himself if he gave up hits or runs, etc. I read a report that said if he could keep his cool and not get so down on himself that he could be an Ace one day. He may have had the coaching since that report came out to fix that issue. The report I'm referring to came out towards the end of his 2nd to last year in college so it is pretty old now. I also can't remember where i read it...maybe rotoworld.com??? Not sure. I personally think he'll do fine and I also think he has a great chance to break camp with the big club if he keeps pitching as well as he has so far this spring...
