GPS vs Range Finder

Didn't know that. Off the subject, I got your magazine today-very nicely done.

We reviewed it quite a while before Callaway purchased them. However according to Callaway, they will not be increased again.

Cool, thanks for the info.

Con- I cant find one that has either of the 2 courses I golf at on it :(

I played only 3 courses this year and the majority of the time I play at the private course I am a member of. Would you guys still recommend the Bushnell over the UPro or since I play 98% of the time at one course or would you recommend the callaway over the bushnell? The fees really dont seem to make much sense since I play at my home club most of the time.

if a played 1 course the majority of the time... i think i would definately go laser rangefinder over gps

What are the two courses and what city are they in?

Bois de Sioux Golf Course - Wahpeton, ND

Dakota Winds Golf Course - Hankinson, ND (Dakota Magic Casino)

The 1st one has both GPS and Scorecard for the Bushnell.

The 2nd one has scorecard for the Bushnell. It says GPS coming soon (usually 10 days)

JB, where did you find Bushnells listings? Unless you have to join their website thinger to see them.

Thank you much!

P.s. Bushnell was the one I was leaning towards, I couldnt find their listings myself though.

I still have the software on my computer from the review we did.

GolfLogix has both. In fact they have over 24,950 courses worldwide and their only subscription is for all of them. It doesn't have any bells and whistles, though, it gives yardage to like 6 points plus front-back-middle. No graphics. I'm kinda tied to it for a couple years since I just got it and it does what it's supposed to. It would be nice to have one of the new ones though! :D

I am thinking another selling feature besides whistles, bells, and pricing might be longer warranty periods from the date of purchase. I might be wrong, but so far all I have seen are 1 year from date of purchase warranties. Perhaps some providers sell extended warranties, maybe not. You'd think for the price they are getting for these units, something longer than a years warranty would be a nice feature. I know that is another reason I will be changing brands with in the next few months because my present GPS has been out of warranty for several years now.

A 1 year warranty for an electronic device is pretty typical, even generous compared to some things. Most of these aren't really what I think of as high dollar items, and the fact that they are put to fairly rugged outdoor use in all sorts of weather, a year is pretty good.

The natural environment that we use them in is one reason why I was inspired to buy the GolfLogix. At the time, it was the most weatherproof golf GPS available. I don't know if it still is or not, but I haven't seen any other advertisements drop their host product into a water hazard.

I will be the proud owner of a Bushnell Pro XGC in a couple weeks, woo hoo. Thanks for everyone's feedback.

I cannot wait to hear your feedback on the unit. I will be a proud owner of one as well. As soon as my Skycaddie membership has expired. 1 more month.

Sure thing, I can't wait till it arrives.

Looks like Sonocaddie doesn't have either of those mapped.

Why does a GPS give layup yardages? I'm sorry but you should be able to subtract 100, 150 or 200 from your yardage. I hate it because on mine, if you scroll past the screen with the layup yardages, it will go back to that screen until you get past where they would apply.

That is another reason I like the Bushnell Smalls. It does give them, but it is on a separate screen and you do not encounter it unless you want to.

They also come in handy on doglegs if you cannot see what is ahead.

It wouldn't be so bad if once you scroll off a page it wouldn't go back to it. It's the only thing I have never liked about mine. (I don't like that it doesn't have graphics now, but I knew it didn't when I got it)

callaway upro is on my christmas list... a big draw towards that particular one is the no subscription fees

The Upro is a great unit, but you may want to think about a couple of issues. First, check out their website and be sure the courses you want are mapped. In my home area I am in good shape, but I have occasion to travel to rural New England and in VT and NH, even some very nice course were NOT mapped last summer. The other item is that to get the Pro Mode, it is now $8 per course.

Based on what JB is saying and the pricing I am reading in this topic, I would sure advise you to check out the Bushnell unit he suggested. I don't think you can make a bad decision with the Upro, but perhaps you can make a better and more cost-effective one with the Bushnell.
