I found this chart on about.com. Do you agree with the distances? They are for short, mid and long hitters.

Club Men Women
Driver 200-230-260 150-175-200
3-wood 180-215-235 125-150-180
5-wood 170-195-210 105-135-170
2-iron 170-195-210 105-135-170
3-iron 160-180-200 100-125-160
4-iron 150-170-185 90-120-150
5-iron 140-160-170 80-110-140
6-iron 130-150-160 70-100-130
7-iron 120-140-150 65-90-120
8-iron 110-130-140 60-80-110
9-iron 95-115-130 55-70-95
PW 80-105-120 50-60-80
SW 60-80-100 40-50-60

I wish I knew how to put a chart on here so it looks neater.

Looks like they would call me a mid-distance guy with my woods and somewhere north of short with my irons! Maybe I need to work on my irons!

On "good" days I guess I would be considered an x-long. The other day I hit my 4 iron 190 and I have hit my 3w 250. I'm thinking this chart is a little off or I just have really good shots once in a LONG while.

I think that is pretty realistic for short-mid-long hitters on an average.

I know there will be some that hit it WAAYYYY further, but that is a pretty good "average".

I hit my 7 iron 150 pretty regularly, and my 3 hybrid 200, so I'm pretty close in that chart.

My drives however, aren't nearly long enough, and that hurts me.

Thanks Gummi. I guess I didn't need to do that! (At least I looked before I posted the same thing!)

Thanks Gummi. Looks much prettier than mine does. I'd say I play my 3 hybrid about 200 yards also. I guess my occasional great shots sku (correct spelling on that?? :confused2: ) my results and make me wonder about the table. But like the article says yardages depend on so many factors. Wind, lie condition, gender, age, fitness level, coordination, athleticism, swing speed, solid contact, type of club, type of ball, etc.

Another question. Do any of you think that difference in loft change any of these numbers?

My wood play sucks! :beat-up:

I'm at the "short" end of the men's section on my Driver, 3-wood and 5-wood.

BUT- I'm very near the LONG end with my irons.

My 7-iron is 145-150 and so forth.

Interesting.

Do you mean like over the years bogey? Like the 5-irons of today (for example) have a stronger loft than the 5-irons of twenty years ago?

And different club companies have different lofts than each other, so yes. The chart should probably be done by loft, not iron number. And of course drivers come in all different lofts.

I'm talking more of Callaway current day 5i compared to Ping current day 5i. I was looking at something else that had PW listed at 51* and my PW is 45*. They could have been basing that number off an older set of clubs too.

Yeah, I understand.

My PW is 47°, and I hit it 115 or so, my Gap or Attack wedge is 52°, and I hit it 100 on the nose (I check this often, just to be sure)

I would somewhat agree, although I think 140 for an 8 iron should be a mid hitter.

I'm right on for the woods (hit my 3W about 10 yds shorter off the deck), but I hit my irons a full club-and-a-half farther then whats on that chart.

I hit each iron about 5-10 yards further than the chart states. But the Wedges are basically dead on.

I am good for the longer men's numbers with my woods, and in the middle men's numbers with my irons. Some days I am longer, some days I am not. We played to day in some pretty damp conditions, so the yardage numbers were on the short side. :comp:

I am longer across the board. About 15-20 yards on the woods and 10-15 yards on the irons. I think most irons are fairly consistent with their lofts until you get to the wedges...then there is some variance.

I never thought of myself as a long hitter, but if the chart says so, I'll take it!

The chart has me a little longer than mid-range for everything but woods (and driver). I just can't sweep to save my soul.

I think that chart is a little outdated. I remember looking at it when I picked up the game again and seeing a more current (and longer) one somewhere else.

Man
I'm so short it isn't even listed on the chart.I hit everyclub about 50 yds

For the woods is pretty close & claims I would be a mid. For the irons I would be a long hitter.

i thought everyone drove the ball 300 yards on AVERAGE and hit their PW 150 yards? they do on all the other forums!

LAWL

That chart has me at a shade longer than average with woods and irons. Wedges are a little off, though. I hat my SW like a 'short - mid hitter'. Then again when lofts come into the picture, PW is 48 degrees and as far as I know that would be considered a pretty weak loft.

I couldn't drive my ball 300 yards if I put it in my car.
